Well Block Party finally came and went over here at Syracuse University, and I really wish that it never left. For one night the Carrier Dome was transformed into a night club by one of the most important figures in electronic dance music today, Kaskade. His set was unbelievable as he drew upon the same formula he used for his Coachella set, throwing his introspective, heartfelt vocals over some of the hottest tracks that are permeating the house music landscape. All of this was accompanied by and incredible stage production which included more lights, lasers, and LED screens than you can shake a stick at. Kaskade put on the best performance I have seen thus far by a DJ/producer and has really set the bar for any shows I see in the future.
Above are two mashups that he played during his set. We’ve already posted his phenomenal mash up of “Epic” and “Call Out”, but I am also including Ken Loi’s masterpiece of a bootleg “Wonderwall 2Night”. Kaskade dropping that track was one of the most memorable parts of the evening and is a moment that is sure to stick with me. I am also going to re-post his Coachella live set so you can get a feel for what to expect on his upcoming Freaks of Nature Tour.
Finally a big thanks to all who helped to make this concert a reality. Kenny Consor and Syracuse’s University Union really put on an unreal show and deserve all the praise in the world for this event. After a year where they helped bring Avicii, Rick Ross, Ludacris, and Kaskade to ‘Cuse, I can only expect another blockbuster year courtesy of them.
