Welcome back for another Mashup Monday. Got a little busy today, but I think I’ll get this one in under the wire all the same. Technically this post covers both this week and last, because last week wasn’t a spectacular one in the mashup world. In any case – got a great lineup this week so let’s dig in.
I heard the preview for this EP a week or so before Scott Melker released the full EP and I was decidedly intrigued. After hearing the whole EP I was awestruck. This is probably my favorite full album since Mitch-Mash’s “Indie Treats and Gangster Beats” the combination of 80′s tracks and hip-hop samples is one of the best I’ve ever heard. I’ve listened to it top to bottom no fewer than 7 times already, and I can’t wait to put it on again tomorrow morning.
Truth be told I thought the Trinidad James tracks was a little 2 months ago but this,FBG$ track proved me wrong one again. Delicate and intricate I found it thoroughly enjoyable and delightfully provocative.
Smash Mouth mashup? YES PLEASE! Flipboitamidles delivers on this track. It’s fun and playful, and everything that 1999 had to offer. So much to do, so much to see.
What does Daft Punk and Hall and Oates have in common? Normally nothing, but now thanks to The Hood Internet these two powerhouses have come together in a wonderful fashion. I can’t tell you how big a smile this track brought to my face.
Ever since his first EP, I’ve loved ScottScottScott’s style. He’s just got a way with things. It’s smart, provocative, and original, everything I wish mashups would be, and the anti-thesis of the doldrums I sift through every week.
This week we switched from Summer to Fall and Titus Jones gives us this last summer fling, and every second of it feels just like that. The slow fade, as the shadows get longer and the days shorter. One last hurrah.
And finally now Torpeedoh is back and what a welcome back it is. I love when these old guard mashers come back from the grave. Makes me feel like I’m in school again, listen to these for the first time.
Have a great week. Enjoy.
